What’s the difference between the coffee you get at the grocery store and gourmet coffee?

The difference doesn’t seem all that great too most people the gourmet coffee costs a few more cents a cup and is harder to find.  Of course, those of us who are avid coffee drinkers know the difference and will fight for the right to never have to drink sub par coffee ever again.

Gourmet coffee is by definition better tasting and better quality.

Whether you are a flavored coffee drinker or you prefer a nice bold regional blend coffee, whether you prefer whole bean coffee or you ground.  Great coffee is a love that sets in and seems to grow with more types of coffee you try.

It’s like going to a nice restaurant versus going out for fast food. Sure fast food will sustain you, but you can always tell a difference in how you feel about what you are eating.

Gourmet coffee is made from better quality beans and better roasting procedures.  The reason the coffee at the store is cheaper is because it costs less for them to make.  Each type of gourmet coffee has a flavor profile all of its own and the best way to find out what you like is to try it.  Some people like blends, some like decafeinated, some like coffees from a specific region, others like flavored gourmet coffee.  I do have one word of warning about gourmet coffee. Once you start drinking high quality coffee it is very difficult to go back drinking anything less.

So if you are new to the gourmet world I suggest you try a few flavored coffees, a few regional coffees and a few blends.  Then once you have your palate trained for the better coffee you can narrow it down to exactly what you like about each coffee, you may find that you like one coffee for breakfast, one for dinner, one for dessert and one just for sipping.
